School update 27-30 Apr

Most young children like to open and close cupboard doors both at home and at school. As parents and teachers we are always afraid that they might hurt themselves. For the Practical life exercise this week the children were taught the proper way to open and shut the cupboard door.

All the children were able to do it under the supervision of the teacher. One day, while some of the children were having shower, Caden, Ryan, Markus, Caleb, Dexton and Dylan played with the cupboard door in the classroom. At first, they gently opened the door and gave it a hard banged to the laughter of the others. However, when they noticed the teacher looking at them, Caden who was holding onto the door closed it gently with that usual smile on his face. The rest of the boys giggled and ran away. They knew they had done wrong. Such an adorable group of boys!

We introduced the letter sound ‘j’ as in jelly. The children helped to make the jelly by mixing in the jelly powder and sugar before pouring it into cups. The most exciting moment was when they were given the jelly to eat. Yummy!

The topic for this week is ‘fish’. The children were given a raw fish to explore, all the children were afraid to touch the fish, except for Natalie who held the fish up with both hands. What a brave little girl she is!

The children were then given a magnifying glass to look at the scales on its body and a plastic knife to cut it. Everyone enjoyed ‘cutting’ the fish although they never succeed with the given plastic knife. Coincidentally, they had fish porridge for lunch that day. It was an unforgettable experience for the them.

Rhyme of the Week
Jack and Jill
Jack and Jill went up the hill,
To fetch a pail of water,
Jack fell down and broke his crown,
And Jill came tumbling after
