Unit selection

The day finally arrived, we were to turn up at toa payoh HDB hub to do our unit selection for our new home. We had been monitoring on the website how the units have been taken up, we were pretty upset that there were only 2nd to the 6th levels left available for us to choose from. Boy suggested giving up but I felt that if we do not select now, we might have to wait a long way down the road for the next BTO. Since boy doesn't mind whether it's high or low, we made up our mind choosing the next highest available unit. We did not choose to do the flooring and internal doors after looking at the sample displays, although it might be cheaper but the colours and materials are really not to our likings.

During the signing of documents and procedures as explained by the nice indian HDB officer, we realised we had not done the loan application yet (I didn't know we have to do it first). With our bad working records (no full time job for a continuous 2 years period), we might not be able to get the HDB grant for first timers. However, if boy is able to find his previous companies to produce evidence that he had been working whether it is part-time/full-time/freelance, we will be able to get the $30,000 grant (the lower the income, the higher the grant), and that shall help us take care of the 5% down payment in 4 months time. The HDB loan is giving us a headache now.
